Shirley June Sweeney, 85

| August 13, 2012 7:23 PM

Shirley June Sweeney, 85, passed away Aug. 10, 2012, in Kalispell.

She was born to Harry and Dora Leota Andrews of Lonepine on May 9, 1927.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Stillwell, of Kalispell; her son, Ken Sweeney, of Lonepine; five grandchildren, Craig, Christopher, Cole ShaMar and TaSha; and her three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Jillian and Zoey.

She married her sweetheart, Frank Sweeney, Feb. 27, 1946. They bought the Hub Supply Grocery Store in 1965 where she was postmaster for many years.

“I could list all Mom's accomplishments, and there were many, but I wanted this to be more personable. Mom had an inner sweet spirit that always knew when her kids needed her. A phone call would come out of nowhere, especially when we needed her most.

“She was totally independent up until about two and a half months ago. She took care of her house, mowed her own lawn and started flowers in her green house. I got to spend the last few months with Mom — that I will always be grateful for.

“There were hard times, but on good days there was much laughter and love. She was my hero, and my rock. She is responsible for who I am today. I will miss that phone call: ‘Hey Mom, how’s it going?’ and she would always reply with her famous saying, ‘Well, I'm still here!’”

Her abundant love for all of her family will be missed immensely.

“The great little community of my youth, Lonepine, has just lost another angel. Until I see you again, Mom, kiss Dad for me, and know that you were truly loved by all of us. I thank God for choosing you to be my Mom, always a comfort, always and forever in my heart.”

A potluck gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Lonepine Community Hall.

Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for the family.
