Felter to hold book signings

| August 15, 2012 6:00 PM

The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is hosting a book signing for Ruth Lane, author of “The Complete Photo Guide to Felting,” from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The book includes information about various breeds of wool and other fibers, cleaning and carding wool, dyeing fibers and blending colors, the ancient tradition of wet felting, nuno or laminate felting, and needle felting. The book contains more than 800 photos and step-by-step instructions on learning the various methods of felting.

Lane is a self-taught felt maker who enjoys the ancient technique of felt-making combined with a variety of mixed-media techniques. As the co-owner of a fine craft gallery, she has long had a love for handcrafted works and supports the resurgence of American craft.

Through the store, Lane has exhibited her own fiber art and the work of other felt makers to educate the general public about felt-making in all its forms.

Lane also teaches felting classes in Kalispell at Camas Creek Yarn. She will hold a book signing at the yarn store from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 24.
