Gene Louis Holliday, 57

| August 17, 2012 3:51 PM

Gene Louis Holliday, 57, born Sept. 22, 1955, passed away on Aug. 12, 2012, at his home in Troy.

He was born to Eileen and Don Holliday in O’Neill, Neb. His family later relocated to the Air Force base in Lakeside, in 1959.

Gene attended Lakeside Elementary School and graduated from Flathead High School in 1974. His passion for the Flathead Braves began when he had a successful high school football career playing for the Braves. This interest continued throughout all these years.

After high school, Gene worked at the Columbia Falls Aluminum Plant for a year. He then attended Spokane Falls Community College where he earned his degree in law enforcement.

He first worked as a jailer and soon became a deputy for the Flathead County Sheriff’s Department. He moved to Seattle for several years to work for the Bellevue Police Department. While in Bellevue, he began to miss the gravel roads of Montana, so he returned to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Department.

Later, he became a sergeant for the Kalispell Police Department. He also worked part-time for the Whitefish Police Department. He loved the life of a law enforcement officer and was able to touch the lives of many youth through the programs offered by the police department.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Holliday; and grandparents, Louis and Dorthy Prange, and Daisy Holliday.

Gene is survived by his mother, Eileen Holliday, of Lakeside; brother Larry Holliday, and nephews Don and Brady of Somers, and niece, Caitie Holliday Touchberry and husband Reid of Misawa, Japan; and sister, Debbie Carlson and husband Mark, and their children, Abby and Coby Carlson, of Whitefish.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Somers.

Memorials can be made to Eidsvold Lutheran Church.
