Credit union calls are fraudulent

Several Whitefish Credit Union members have received fraudulent calls to their mobile phones from an automated recording stating that their Whitefish Credit Union card has been compromised.

The recording falsely claims to be from a credit union representative.

The calls, however, are not from anyone associated with the credit union.

The calls were reported to police by a credit union employee Monday morning.

Whitefish Credit Union officials, in a news release, emphasized that they never will initiate a request for personal information (this includes PINs, Social Security numbers, account numbers or date of birth) by phone, email or text message. If people receive these calls, they should not provide any personal information to the caller.

Members are encouraged to regularly monitor their accounts to avoid any fraudulent account activity.
