More concerts throughout festival

| August 22, 2012 8:30 PM

Other Crown of the Continent Guitar Festival concerts include:

• Monday, 8 p.m. — Patty Larkin and Dennis Koster

Larkin plays folk-pop and is president of La Guitarra, an international group of women guitarists, said David Feffer, chairman of the Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation.

Koster is one of the foremost flamenco guitarists, Feffer said, and he will be playing one of the most famous flamenco guitars in the world at the concert. The guitar once belong to Sabicas, a Spanish flamenco guitarist considered by many to be “an absolute genius and one of the greatest guitarists ever,” Feffer said.

The guitar Koster will play has been in a private collection for years. The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art would like to acquire it. That it will be played in Bigfork is “insane,” Feffer said.

“It’s the equivalent in that world of Jimi Hendrix’s Stratocaster that he played the national anthem on at Woodstock,” he said. “It’s that famous.”

• Tuesday, 8 p.m. — Lee Ritenour, Sonny Landreth and Dave Grusin

These three jazz and blues legends will share the stage, backed by Melvin Lee Davis on bass and Sonny Emory on drums. Ritenour is a Grammy-winning multi-style guitarist, Landreth is a renowned blues guitarist and Grusin has composed more than 100 scores for movies and television.

Davis worked with Don Cornelius of “Soul Train” and recorded with Ritenour, Chaka Khan, the Pointer Sisters and more. Emory is a Grammy winner best known for drumming with Earth, Wind and Fire.

• Thursday, Aug. 30, 8 p.m. — Julian Lage and Jody Fisher

Lage was featured as a guitar prodigy at the Grammys when he was 8 years old and now, “at the ripe old age of 25, he’s already considered the absolute top of the jazz world,” Feffer said.

Fisher is a finger-style jazz master and chairman of the Los Angeles Music Academy guitar department.

• Saturday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m. — Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen, with Matt Smith and friends

Hillman, from the legendary band The Byrds, is one of the pioneers of the country rock genre. He also performed with the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas and the Desert Rose Band. Hillman is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Pedersen fronted the Laurel Canyon Ramblers for 40 years and has collaborated with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs, the Dillards and Dan Fogelberg.

These shows take place on the Crown Festival Stage at Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork.

Tickets to individual shows are $30 each. A Crown Pass is available for $158 and is good for all events but Friday’s fundraising concert.
