A 26-year-old Kalispell man was killed after his vehicle went off the road for unknown reasons early Sunday morning on U.S. 2 west of Kalispell.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man as Jacob Shipp.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Shipp was driving west on U.S. 2 when his 1978 Ford pickup left the road and went into a ditch near mile marker 14 shortly after 2 a.m.

The pickup rolled, struck a tree and came to rest on its top, pinning Shipp, who had been partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shipp was not wearing a seat belt. Speed was not a factor in the wreck but it’s unknown if alcohol was, the Montana Highway Patrol said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Montana Highway Patrol and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
