Duane B. Appel, 84

Duane B. Appel, 84, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at the Montana Veterans Home under the wonderful loving care of the VA staff.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1928, to Guido and Frieda Appel in Fulda, Minn.

Duane served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Sheila Raverty and they moved to Cut Bank where he was a barber. They then moved to East Glacier Park where he was a barber and he and Sheila owned a gift shop and motel. In 1976 Duane moved to Kalispell and owned a successful carpet cleaning and fire and water restoration business.

He will be greatly missed by his children and his family will be forever grateful to the VA staff.

Duane is survived by his children, Kevin Appel and Dee, Katie Goble and George, Peter Appel and Linda, and Mary Jones and Roger; grandchildren, Nicole, Kristina, Megan, Christopher, Benjamin, Dominic, Molly and Chad; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Montana Veterans Home Cemetery in Columbia Falls with military honors by the United Veterans of the Flathead.
