Turns out, recording was illegal

A Swan River Road man in Bigfork was counseled after contacting the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to report he had recorded a conversation with his wife about putting his child into a school without his knowledge, violating their custody agreement.

After complaining that the recording no longer worked and that he was concerned it may have been tampered with, he was told it is against state law to record conversations without the knowledge of both parties. He then withdrew his complaint.

An upset Wilson Heights resident reported he caught his neighbor’s bulldog tearing up his flower bed.

A woman was arrested on a warrant during a welfare check on Montana 35.

The car was initially reported to police because a witness believed it was on fire as it was traveling south on U.S. 93. It was determined not to be burning anything but oil.

A shocked Third Avenue West woman reported that when she took her trash out she discovered someone had painted “die” in white on the side of her garbage can.

A woman who reported to the Whitefish Police Department that she had been assaulted by her roommate at their Iowa Avenue residence later canceled her request for charges after saying it had taken too long and the man would not be back that night. Officers later completed a civil standby for the pair so the man could pick up his belongings.

A man told police he believed his pockets had been picked while at a U.S. 93 South business.

A man was arrested and a woman warned about her warrant during a traffic stop on U.S. 93 South.
