Dogs get in hot water over cold water immersions

Emergency responders were called out for two animal rescues in 24 hours for dogs in the water.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, the South Kalispell Fire Department responded to Russell Drive, where a dog fell through the ice and got stuck in the slough.

The Creston Fire Department responded to the Old Steel Bridge at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after a dog fell in the Flathead River.

Both dogs safely escaped.

In another incident involving a dog, this one deceased, a Washington Avenue woman contacted Whitefish Police Department after a confused drug user got into her vehicle and tried sniffing her dog’s ashes out of a vial she kept in the vehicle, believing it was drugs.

A First Avenue West resident was dragged into the world of computer crime after a hacker figured out the home’s wireless password and used the resident’s Internet service “to hack a major corporation’s computers.” The resident reported to the Kalispell Police Department that he has since changed his password.

An Austin Street woman was unlucky twice, first when she lost her wallet after leaving it on the top of her car and second when it was found and turned in after she canceled her bank cards, driver’s license and Social Security card and ordered new ones.

An employee of a U.S. 93 South business found a syringe under a table and reported that the vehicle the syringe may have come from had other drug paraphernalia in it.

An unoccupied car on First Avenue West caught fire, possibly caused by the electrical system.

A gas leak in a meter was repaired after employees at a U.S. 2 West business reported the smell of gas over the course of several hours.

Someone tore the screen out of a door at a West Idaho Street business and stole $120 in cash.

A woman was caught on video leaving a West Idaho Street supermarket with an entire cart full of groceries without paying.

A pair of thieves were caught on video stealing money from the hostess at a South Main Street business.

A group of youths were reported spinning brodies in a parking lot on U.S. 2 West, nearly hitting a man who was walking his dog.

A woman was arrested during a traffic stop on Airport Road.

Money was stolen from a business on Parkway Drive. A cleaning crew is suspected.

Gas was siphoned from a rental truck on North Meridian Road.

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a U.S. 2 East home in Kalispell, where the resident found her bathroom window broken after hearing a strange noise the prior night. Deputies also found another broken window at the home.

Tire tracks and footprints were found in the snow around a garage that had been burglarized on Whitefish Stage Road in Whitefish. Several power tools, drill bits and other items were stolen.

A Beretta Tomcat .32-caliber handgun was stolen on River Drive in Hungry Horse.

Columbia Falls Police Department officers got a twofer when they arrested an 18-year-old woman on two active warrants and were able to follow her mother and advise her to take care of her own warrant.

An officer drove an un-ruly child to school after the child refused to go.

Polson Police arrested two people on Sunday, both at a casino on U.S. 93. One person was arrested for assaulting a peace officer, while another was arrested in the parking lot for driving under the influence.
