North Valley Music School offers kids' classes

| December 12, 2012 6:30 PM

North Valley Music School is accepting registrations for its upcoming children’s classes.

Music Together, a class for children from birth through age 5, will offer a 10-week session on drums.

Join up to 10 children and their caregivers for 45 minutes once per week to experience songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions. Music Together classes are based upon the recognition that all children are musical and can learn to sing in tune and keep a beat.

Participants receive two CDs and songbook collections specific to the season. Cost is $100, or $65 for the second child in the same family.

The sessions start Jan. 7 or 8 and run through March 11 or 12. In Whitefish, the class meets Monday or Tuesday at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. In Columbia Falls, the class meets at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Play Guitar I, for ages 9 to 12, is offered in Whitefish from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from Jan. 8 through Feb. 26.

Students will learn basic open chords and progressions, how to read guitar tablature and music notation, strum patterns for a variety of styles, blues chord and solo patterns, how to restring a guitar, and some simple melodies.

Students will also learn multi-part songs in small groups and perform them for one another.

Class limit is six. Cost is $85; a guitar rental is $10 for entire session.
