Art classes for all ages at Stumptown

| December 19, 2012 6:00 PM

Stumptown Art Studio will offer art classes for all ages from Jan. 7 through March 29.

Adults can explore new ways to be creative or expand on their skills with a wide selection of workshops to choose from, including glass fusing, needle felting, altered books, Canvas and Cocktails, Clay Time, Wild Women Wednesdays and the Cultural and Art History Club.

Stumptown Art Studio launched its newest public art project, Windows On Whitefish, a year ago. A continuation of mosaic-making workshops will be taught by project artistic director Deb Stika beginning Jan. 7.

In the ongoing mosaic classes, students will learn the skills of mosaic making and create a mosaic fish of their own. Then they are able to return to the free community sessions to work on the project’s second 6- by 9-foot mosaic panel, which depicts the summer season in Whitefish.

Stumptown Art Academy will continue to be offered Mondays and Wednesdays for preschool children ages 3 to 5. The program focuses on art-based education with an integrated core curriculum approach. Every month, a different artist will be studied through art, math, science, social studies and language arts.

On Thursdays, Art en Español is available for students in kindergarten through grade four, and on Fantastic Fridays two age groups meet for a wide variety of art experiences.

Arts and Crafts Club takes place at Muldown School on Mondays.

On Tuesdays, Art Exploration for ages 3 to 5 runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Then, after school, artists ages 9 to 12 can join in Hands on Clay to learn all about working with clay.

Wheeling Wednesdays is an opportunity for ages 9 to 15 to learn the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. It is also the day for After School Arts and Crafts Club for ages 9 to 13.

Parent-Toddler Art Time runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, and Surprising Sculptures is after school Thursdays for ages 6 to 9.

Winter hours at Stumptown Art Studio and the Ceramics Annex are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Additional hours are during all classes, special events and prearranged after-hours parties.
