| February 1, 2012 4:34 PM

Irvin C. “Jake” Jacobson, 94, passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

He was born Jan. 27, 1918, to Jacob O. Jacobson and Hilda (Tollerud) Jacobson in Scobey. He attended schools in Scobey; and in 1935 joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was stationed at Apgar (West Glacier), which brought them to the Flathead Valley.

He joined the Montana National Guard. In 1940, the Guard was called into active duty and sent to Fort Lewis, Wash., to train with Co. F 41st Division of the 163rd Infantry, U.S. Army, which in 1942 was sent to Australia aboard the Queen Elizabeth ocean liner. Jake served our country during World War II and experienced wartime action in New Guinea.

On April 19, 1944, he was married to Margaret L. Stebbins. This spring, Irvin and Margaret would have celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Irvin was a member of the Teamsters Union and drove trucks on many construction jobs, including the Hungry Horse Dam. He also worked for Garrett Freight Lines. Irvin continued working at Lakeside Air Force Base, delivering food to the workers at the radar base atop Blacktail Mountain.

After retiring, Irvin and Margaret enjoyed traveling to visit friends in Sekiu, Wash., and also Bullhead City, Ariz. Many good times were had in the motorhome, from Alaska to Arizona, and everywhere in between.

Irvin had a love of fishing. He kept his boat, “Penny 2,” named after his beloved dog, in Sekiu and enjoyed fishing with his wife and many good friends, especially Dick and Chris.

Irvin had a very special place in his heart for the furry, four-legged friends of his neighborhood. Always with pockets full of dog biscuits and treats, he would visit every one of them on his daily walks. They all brought him such joy.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Hilda Jacobson; brother, Oscar; and sisters, Dolores Fulbright and Harriet Henrickson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Margaret; sister, Lorrian Martin, of Gresham, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, at Northridge Lutheran Church, Kalispell.

Memorial contributions can be made in Irvin’s name to Northridge Lutheran Church, Kalispell.
