Crusaders, Cougars in MCAA state basketball semis

HELENA - Defending state champion Flathead Valley Homeschool opened the Montana Christian Athletic Association state boys basketball tournament on Thursday by beating Rimrock Christian School (Billings) 56-46 at Carroll College.

Josiah Sheeran led FVHS with 18 points and eight rebounds. Josh Jarvis was next with 13 points, five assists and eight rebounds.

The Crusaders led from start to finish, but relied on steady free throw shooting down the stretch to hold off Rimrock Christian.

FVHS will play Heritage Christian tonight at 6:45 p.m. in a semifinal contest.

Heritage Christian beat Helena Christian Rams 71-49 in a first-round contest.

Josh Bray scored 24 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, leading Stillwater Christian School (15-6) to an opening-round victory over Foothills Community Christian School (Great Falls).

The 29 points was a career best.

He also had 10 rebounds.

Trevor Holladay also had a double-double for the victors with 11 rebounds and 11 points.

Josh Topp totaled 15 points for the Cougars.

Stillwater will play Helena Home School at 8:15 p.m. tonight in semifinal action.

Morgan Paolini scored 15 points, Jordan Danz 11 and Samantha Red Elk 11 for Stillwater in an easy first-round victory over Foothills Community Christian School.

Danz also had team highs of 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Stillwater led 38-3 at the half.

Stillwater moves to semifinal play tonight at 5.
