Slick roads cause spate of accidents

Slippery roads caused by a burst of winter weather led to several vehicular accidents Friday morning. Five accidents were reported between 7:53 and 8:42 a.m. They occurred on Hawthorn Avenue, Whitefish Stage Road, Seventh Avenue East North, U.S. 2 East and an unlisted location. Responding personnel came from the Montana Highway Patrol and the Kalispell Police Department.

An employee of an East Idaho Street business reported to the Kalispell Police Department that either two people or one big person broke in, busted a lock on the cash office and stole a safe that may have held $2,000.

A 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix was stolen on Third Avenue West North after its owner left it unlocked with the keys in the ignition and his cellphone inside overnight. Montana Highway Patrol troopers later found the vehicle abandoned after it had slid off the road.

A pair of men and a girl were arrested after trying to take screens off the windows of a home on Fourth Avenue East.

A shoplifter was apprehended at a First Avenue East North business.

An argument between a woman and her soon-to-be ex-husband led to him driving off with her purse and ring, which he told her he threw out of the vehicle somewhere.

A person was reported driving a dirt bike in the bowl at the skate park in Woodland Park.

A Lake Pointe Drive resident in Bigfork complained to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after watching someone in a pickup truck drive laps around the neighborhood over and over. Deputies stopped the driver, who claimed to be just driving while talking on the phone. The driver said he was finished doing laps for the evening.

A driver was spinning his vehicle in circles in a casino parking lot on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell.

A man who left his coat on a bar stool in a restaurant on U.S. 93 North in Kalispell said that when he later went outside, he found the coat in the back of another vehicle.

A diamond wedding ring was reported stolen from a home on Mackinaw Loop in Somers.

Personal items were reported stolen from a home on East Evergreen Drive in Evergreen.

Officers with the Whitefish Police Department arrested a driver during a traffic stop on Spokane Avenue.

Officers with the Polson Police Department cited a driver for failing to remain at the scene of an accident on Orchard Park Lane in Polson.
