James Preston Slack, 79

James Preston Slack, born Oct. 22, 1932, in Fort Wayne, Ind., “passed on to the greater existence” on Feb. 23, 2012, in Yorba Linda, Calif. He was 79. 

Jim grew up in Fort Wayne. He attended Concordia Lutheran High School.  In 1954, he graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science.

Jim proudly served our country as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1954 to 1956, as part of the post World War II Occupation Forces. After completing his service time, he then attended and graduated in 1960 from Boalt Hall School of Law, at the University of California. He then served the County of Orange as a deputy district attorney in the early 1960s. In the mid ‘60s he opened the Law Offices of Kurlich, Slack & Ballard in Fullerton, Calif. In 1993, he moved to Kalispell and continued to practice law.  During his 52-year career in law he held memberships in the California State Bar Association and Montana State Bar Association.

Jim is survived by his two sons, Steven Slack and Michael Slack; two grandsons, Tanner and Keaton Slack; and two granddaughters, Brittney and Jaycee Slack. He also leaves behind his faithful best friend Kali, his Brittney spaniel.
