Dillon upends Polson in state basketball opener

BUTTE — Dillon knocked off Polson from long range, draining eight treys en route to a 48-40 victory Thursday afternoon in opening-round play of the Class A state girls basketball tournament at the Butte Civic Center.

Polson managed to fashion a 22-15 lead at the half, but Dillon closed with a 23-point fourth quarter to win by eight points.

Carly King was 4-for-4 from 3-point land and tallied 12 points for Dillon. Courtney Linder hit three 3s and finished with 11 points.

Dillon only had four players score, but all reached double figures. Kansas Suenram tallied 12 and Charlee Hahnkamp 13.

Polson’s Riley Kenney led all scorers with 18 points. Mariah Hamel scored nine.

The loss drops Polson (16-5) into loser-out action today, facing Havre at 12:30 p.m.

Dillon moves on to semifinal action versus Billings Central at 6:30 p.m.

Billings Central topped Havre in first-round action 57-42.

In tonight’s other semifinal matchup at 8, Butte Central squares off with Laurel.

Frenchtown (18-3), the Northwestern A regular season and divisional champions, lost to Butte Central on Thursday 51-36.
