Glacier, Flathead athletes recognized
After stellar seasons, three local players have been named to the Class AA All-State basketball team. Flathead senior George Sherwood and Glacier junior Ryan Edwards were each named to the boys’ team and Glacier junior Nicole Heavirland made the girls team.
Sherwood had a spectacular season, leading the West in scoring at 15.3 points per game. He stepped it up in the state tournament, scoring 50 points in three tournament games to help lead the Braves to the state title game.
Edwards was possibly the most dominant center in the state last season, leading all players in rebounds (10.8) and blocked shots (3.0) per game. He averaged a double-double for the season, scoring 12.8 points per game. He is one of just three juniors named All State this season.
Heavirland led the Wolfpack and was fourth in the state in scoring this season, with 13.6 points per game. The junior guard is a dynamic scorer and at one point this season scored more than 20 points in three straight games.
Glacier’s backcourt duo of Evan Epperly and Kyle Griffith were named to the All-Conerence second team along with Flathead senior Matt McLean. Glacier’s Cassidy Hashley and Flathead’s Tess Brenneman were named to the girls’ second team white the Braves’ Emma Andrews was honorable mention.
