MISSOULA — Bigfork’s Makena Morley set a fast pace to start the track season Saturday by flirting with the five-minute barrier in the 1,600-meter run while teammate Ryan Hayes was a double winner in the boys sprints at the Seeley-Swan Open.

Morley, a freshman, was never pushed in her race, but still crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 5:06.06.

Her margin of victory was 50 seconds.

Morley is the state Class B cross country champion. She finished her fall prep campaign undefeated.

Her margin of victory at state was just over a minute.

Hayes turned in times of 23.87 in the 200 and 52.40 for the 400.

Bigfork finished 1-2 in the discus with Austin Cantrell having the best toss, 122-2, and Mitchell Harsh next at 120-1.

The non-scoring meet attracted 10 teams in the girls field, 11 for the boys.
