WHITEFISH —Libby’s Dalyn Germany was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs on Saturday as the Loggers downed host Whitefish 15-1 in a Northwestern A softball contest.

The Loggers (7-5 overall, 3-2 league) scored 11 runs in the first two innings and racked up 11 hits total in the victory.

Margot Myers had a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

“We hit pretty well at the beginning of the game. We got the bats rolling and defensively (the Loggers) cleaned things up from (Friday) and played a lot better,” said Libby coach Dean Thompson.

“I’m pretty happy with the way our young kids are playing and real happy with the way our older kids are playing. They’re gelling together really well,” Thompson added.

Libby has three conference games remaining (Frenchtown, Columbia Falls and Polson). It must win two of those in order to make the state tournament, the coach said.

HAMILTON — The Polson Pirate softball team bounced back with a vengeance, besting Hamilton 15-1 and Corvallis 12-2 in a pair of nonconference games.

The Pirates (9-5, 2-3) racked up a total of 27 hits on the day, 14 against the Broncs and 13 against the Blue Devils.

Heidi Rausch had a fantastic day at the plate — 5-for-7 with a home run, a triple and two doubles.

Martina Marquardt was also 2-for-7 with a pair of home runs.

“I thought they did extremely well, especially Shalaina Duford,” said Pirate coach Larry Smith.

On a cold, blustery day, Duford gave up just two hits against Hamilton and five against Corvallis.

Smith also complimented the defensive efforts of right fielder Jordan Evertz.

She “made a fantastic catch” in the Hamilton game, the coach said.

It was a hard hit ball to right center and Evertz “laid out horizontal, caught the ball, hit the ground and held on. What a catch!” Smith said.

“She’s been kind of the quiet girl but she’s got a lot of speed and she’s very athletic,” he added.

The Pirates have three conference games remaining. They play host on Thursday to Columbia Falls.
