School elections take place Tuesday

Voters have either one or two days left to vote in school elections.

Absentee ballots are due Monday, and polls will be open Tuesday.

Following is a list of polling locations, times and a recap of ballot information. Most districts listed below are requesting general-fund levy requests, which are for operating and maintaining schools. General-fund dollars may be spent on items such as textbooks, supplies, technology and personnel.

Kalispell Public Schools

Where to vote

• Absentee voting is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the auxiliary services building, 514 E. Washington St., Kalispell.

• In-person voting is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Flathead County Fairgrounds Expo Building, 265 N. Meridian Road, Kalispell.

What to vote on

• Elementary general-fund levy request: $211,500. Cost to taxpayers: $5.83 a year on a home with a $100,000 assessed value, or $11.65 for a $200,000 home. A priority use of funds would be for additional personnel to provide support in overcrowded classrooms, technology and materials.

• High school building reserve request: $4,127,915 over five years ($825,583 per year). Cost to taxpayers: $10.20 a year on a home with an assessed value of $100,000, or $20.41 on a $200,000 home. The money would be used for maintenance repairs and upgrades at the following high school sites: Flathead High School, Glacier High School, Linderman Education Center, the H.E. Robinson Vo-Ag Center and central supports. Money is planned for items such as replacing roofing, lockers, upgrading fire systems, ventilation and heating systems, resurfacing the Legends Stadium track and providing technology infrastructure.

• Trustee election will be for one three-year term on a high school district seat representing the Cayuse Prairie, Creston, Deer Park, and Fair-Mont-Egan elementary districts. Joe Brenneman and incumbent Ivan Lorentzen are the candidates.

Who can vote

Registered voters living in the Kalispell elementary and high school districts. The following partner school districts will be able to vote for the Kalispell high school building reserve and one seat on the board at the same times and location: Cayuse Prairie, Creston, Fair-Mont-Egan and Deer Park. Partner districts Marion, Pleasant Valley, Smith Valley, Evergreen and Helena Flats may vote only on the high school building reserve levy request.

Whitefish

Where to vote

• Absentee voting is from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the Whitefish School District Office, 600 E. Second St., Whitefish.

• In-person voting is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of Whitefish School District Office.

What to vote on

• High school general-fund levy request: $45,782. Cost to taxpayers: $1.25 a year on a home with a $100,000 assessed value, or $2.50 on a $200,000 home.

• Trustee election is for two three-year terms. Candidates are Shawn Tucker and incumbents Shannon Hanson and Patricia Jarvi.

Olney-Bissell

Where to vote

• Absentee voting is from 8 a.m. until noon Monday at Olney-Bissell School, 5955 Farm to Market Road, Whitefish.

• In-person voting is from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Olney-Bissell School.

What to vote on

 • General-fund levy request: $18,800. Cost to taxpayers: $10.27 a year on a home with a $100,000 assessed value, or $20.54 on a $200,000 home.

 • Kalispell high school building reserve levy.

Columbia Falls

Where to vote

• Absentee voting ends at noon Monday at the Columbia Falls Schools Business Office, 501 Sixth Ave. W., Columbia Falls.

• In-person voting is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Glacier Gateway, 440 Fourth Ave. W., Columbia Falls, and at Canyon Elementary School, 200 North St., Hungry Horse.

What to vote on

• Elementary general-fund levy request: $91,544. Cost to taxpayers: $4.70 a year on a home with a $100,000 assessed value, or $9.40 on a $200,000 home.

• High school general-fund levy request: $81,985. Cost to taxpayers: $3.68 a year on a home with a $100,000 assessed value, or $7.36 on a $200,000 home.

 • Trustee election is for two three-year terms. Candidates are Carl Motichka, Benjamin Shafer, Glenn Wehe and incumbents James Henjum and Jill Rocksund.

Superintendent Mike Nicosia said that while the district is mandated to explain the levy’s tax impact on the ballot, the district plans to offset any increase, if approved, by making reductions in non-general-fund budgets.

Somers-Lakeside

Where to vote

• Absentee voting is from 6:30 a.m. to noon Monday at Somers Middle School, 315 School Addition Road, Somers.

• In-person voting from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Somers Middle School and at Lakeside Elementary School, 255 Adams St., Lakeside.

What to vote on

• General-fund levy request: $405,000. Cost to taxpayers: $26.61 a year on a home with a $100,000 assessed value, or $53.23 on a $200,000 home.

• Trustee election is for two three-year terms. Incumbent Dave Alexander, Samuel Bagley, John Hollensteiner and Stephen Naso are the candidates.

 • Kalispell high school building reserve levy.

West Valley

Where to vote

• Absentee voting is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at West Valley School, 2290 Farm to Market Road, Kalispell.

• In-person voting is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the West Valley School library.

What to vote on

 • Trustee election is for two three-year terms. Sean Brannan and incumbents Cory Hill and Jane Wheeler are the candidates.

 • Kalispell high school building reserve levy.

Kila

Where to vote

• Absentee voting ends at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kila School, 395 Kila Road, Kila.

• In-person voting is from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kila School.

What to vote on

• Trustee election is for one three-year term; Angela Carlson and Jennifer Crowley are the candidates.

• One seat on Kalispell high school board.
