Glacier, Columbia Falls fast on cold day

The Glacier and Columbia Falls track teams met in a dual on Thursday, one of the last warmups for each squad before divisionals.

Morgan Christianson won both the 200 and 400 meter dashes for Columbia Falls, one of just two girls to win multiple events at the meet. Christanson ran 28.03 seconds to win the 200 and 1:06.21 in the 400.

The other two-time winner was Glacier’s Shauna Williams, who threw 33 feet, 1 inch to win the shot put and 119-7 to win the discus. Her mark in the discus was one of just three marks on the girls side to best the state qualifying standard on the cold, windy day. The others came from teammate’s Lexy Boschee in the 300 hurdles (47.36) and Leah Cook in the long jump (17-0 3/4).

On the boys side, Glacier’s Greg Dalton swept the hurdles, running the 110 hurdles in 15.69 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 43.47 seconds. Columbia Falls’ Dan Jones was the only other double winner for the boys, winning both the shot put (48-9 1/2) and the javelin (190-5) while finishing second in the discus. 

Glacier’s Troy Fraley outran Columbia Falls’ Derrick Williams in the 3,200, winning in 9:40.28 to finish with one of the best marks of the day. Wolfpack teammate Rial Gunlikson had an impressive leap in the triple jump, clearing 42-5 3/4 to win the event by more than two feet.
