C-Falls, Polson 2-0 at LaVerne Combo tourney

BUTTE — Columbia Falls bounced back from a tough softball loss on Thursday with a pair of victories Friday at the LaVerne Combo in Butte.

The Wildkats downed Laurel 4-1, then dumped Livingston, 6-0.

Ciarra Holm led Columbia Falls at the plate against Laurel, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

The Wildkats had just three hits against Laurel, but were hitting machines in the Livingston contest with 14.

Ashley Trueblood shut the Locomotives down as well, allowing just three hits to pick up the victory.

Tiffany Hummer and Catie King were each 3-for-3 and Winter Kemppainen and Kathrin Jetty were 2-for-3 in the second game.

Shaun Rowe continued her slugging ways with a home run in that one.

Kemppainen gave up just three hits to pick the win.

The Polson Pirates turned in a stellar day as well, picking up a pair of victories over Lewiston and Belgrade.

The Belgrade contest was a good one, according to Pirate coach Larry Smith.

“(The Panthers) hit the ball well and our girls responded,” he said.

Polson led 5-1 going into the fifth, but the Panthers rallied with three runs to cut the lead to one run.

“But in the sixth, we responded with three more runs,” he said.

The Pirates had a great day at the plate — 14 hits against Lewistown and 19 against Belgrade.

Heidi Rausch had two home runs and four RBIs against Belgrade, while younger sister Sarah Rausch had an RBI single in her first varsity at-bat for the Pirates.

Polson plays Sidney and Hardin today.

The Libby Loggers split, falling to Billings Central, but claiming a victory over Columbus.

Lexie Hageness was 2-for-3 in the Columbus contest and Devon Gallagher had a home run.

Billings Central scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat the Loggers.

In the first game, Alyssa Walker, Mahalah Wedel, Gallagher, Brooke Rosling and Dayln Germany all had one hit apiece.

Katie Gillis batted 3-for-3 in a losing effort for the Whitefish Bulldogs as they fell to Lewistown.

Bailey Tveidt was 2-for-3 and Margot Myers and Hanna Lewis added one hit apiece for Whitefish.

Lewistown scored seven runs in the first two innings, but the Bulldogs battled back with a run in the third and four in the fourth.

In Whitefish’s first game, Belgrade’s Justine Taylor threw a no-hitter and struck out nine as the Panthers rolled.
