BUTTE — Saturday was a pretty good day for the Polson Pirate softball team at the LaVerne Combo softball tournament.

Two 17-0 wins over Eastern A Sidney and Hardin, 43 total hits, four doubles, two triples, two home runs and just six hits given up.

“This should give most of them a real positive feeling about hitting. They really hit the ball well, everybody up and down the lineup,” said Pirate coach Larry Smith.

“I hope we didn’t burn all our bats up,” Smith joked.

The first game was highlighted by home runs from Riley Kenney and Jaylin Kenney. Jaylin Kenney’s 3-run homer was an inside-the-park shot over the right fielder.

“She’s really been hot here the past few weeks,” Smith said of Jaylin Kenney.

“The Kenney family had a great weekend.”

Riley Kenney was 7-for-9 on the day, which also included a double and a triple. Jaylin was 5-for-8.

“Heidi Rausch had an enormous weekend. She’s hitting the ball well — and hard,” the coach added.

Rausch was 5-for-7 Saturday with two doubles and a home run.

The Pirates (15-5 overall, 3-3 Northwestern A) play host to Whitefish on Thursday, then head to Libby on Friday.
