MISSOULA — A good run came up just a little bit short for the Flathead Bravette softball team on Tuesday.

The Bravettes fell in the Western AA play-in series 6-3 and 12-1 to No. 2 seed Missoula Sentinel.

“We played really well in the first game. They got a few more hits than us and a couple of our hits went right to them,” said Flathead coach Ashley Fusaro.

“Cassidy Smith had a great home run. That was very exciting,” Fusaro said.

Smith had a two-run homer in Flathead’s three-run fourth inning.

“That was one nice clutch hit.

“The girls hit well that first game and played hard,” she said.

Flathead had five hits in the first game — one each by Smith, Julia Morrow, Julie Dawson, Kaylee Henderson and Carson Dawson.

The second game?

“We just weren’t able to bounce back for Game 2,” Fusaro said.

Flathead had three hits in that game, but gave up 13.

Flathead hits were by Julie Dawson, Carson Dawson and Mackenzie Twichel.

Freshman Jenna Jensen took both losses.

“Sentinel is a very good team. We wish them the best of luck and we will be back next year,” she added.

The Bravettes were a young team this year. They graduate just four members of the 2012 squad. They are right fielder Julia Morrow, outfielder Taylor Twichel, third baseman/designated player Adrienne Carroll and manager Jourdan McFarland.
