Mahlum to play for state tennis title
MISSOULA — Bigfork’s Colter Mahlum will play for a state tennis championship today.
Mahlum defeated Bruce Metz of Troy in Wednesday’s quarterfinal 7-6, 6-0, then dumped Karl Daniels of St. Ignatius 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinal.
He’ll face Hunter Shima of Ronan in the final. Shima survived a 3-setter with Troy’s Creede Garcia in the quarters. Garcia won the first set 7-6, but Shima gathered himself and claimed the next two sets, 6-4, 6-0. He dispatched Cut Bank’s Isaac Matt 6-2, 6-2 in the semis.
Conrad leads in team scores with 24. Troy is second with 18 and Loyola third with 16.
On the girls side, Fairfield leads with 20 points, Conrad is second at 17 and Chinook has 14 points. Bigfork is in fifth place with 12 points.
