Failed bomb found in outhouse

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to FFA Drive, where a homemade bomb made of a spice can filled with explosive powder with a wick sticking out was found in an outhouse. It appeared that someone had tried to light the wick but burned it too short without setting it off.

A resident of Scarborough Drive held a man at gunpoint until deputies arrived after he heard someone rustling around in his driveway. He first fired a shot in the air before finding the man. Deputies were able to stop a driver who had dropped off the man and made a couple of arrests for criminal trespass. It was believed the group intended to steal from vehicles in the area.

A Bigfork woman residing on Shawnee Drive reported that while inside her home she heard an explosion and felt her floor buckle. Her neighbor heard the noise as well. Deputies were unable to locate the source of the noise.

While responding to a report of a stolen vehicle that had been located, deputies were led on a chase when several people fled the scene. It was determined that the vehicle had never been reported stolen, and despite the use of a thermal imaging camera, deputies were unable to apprehend the runners, who had misdemeanor warrants out for their arrest.

A Kalispell man reported his daughter was taken to the Virgin Islands by her mother despite a parenting plan in place that bars the child from being taken out of the state.

A man on Lone Coyote Trail reported someone shot a bullet through his shop and that the bullet was still lodged in the door.

Children were reported hitting horses with rocks on Halfmoon Road in Columbia Falls.

A man was arrested after officers responded to a report of a verbal disturbance on Shady Lane.

A pair of storage units were broken into on Montana 35.

Three unlocked vehicles were burglarized on Sweetgrass Lane, with a wallet stolen from one.

A computer was stolen from a home on Old Highway 2 East in Martin City.

Someone smashed in the garage door of a home on South Fork Road in Martin City and stole a chain saw and plasma cutter.

A vehicle on Batavia Lane was burglarized, but nothing seemed to be stolen.

A concerned citizen contacted the Kalispell Police Department after witnessing a man in a van crawl into the back and punch a child in a car seat while at a red light.

A woman received some help from officers after reporting her vehicle had been stolen — with her Chihuahua inside — from a parking lot on Hutton Ranch Road. With their help, she found her vehicle in the lot.

An assault was reported on Sunny View Lane.

Officers with the Columbia Falls Police Department released a man to his friends after arresting him during a traffic stop on Sixth Avenue West for driving under the influence.

An ongoing issue of children being harassed by neighbors was reported on Frontage Road.

A man was arrested on a county warrant after officers responded to a report of a vehicle with no license plate stuck in the mud off Fourth Avenue West.

The Whitefish Police Department responded to three reports of intoxicated pedestrians, one on Central Avenue, one on East Second Street and one on Lupfer Avenue.

A theft was reported on U.S. 93 South.

A motorist was arrested during a traffic stop on U.S. 93 South.

Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrested a motorist for driving with a suspended or revoked license on U.S. 93.

A minor was found in possession of a tobacco product at Ronan Middle School.

Officers with the Ronan Police Department arrested a person for rape.

Officers with the Polson Police Department arrested a person for partner or family member assault on Seventh Avenue East.
