Polson batters Anaconda, Belgrade

ANACONDA — The Pirate bats are rocking at the Class A state softball tournament.

Polson had 12 hits in a 10-0 first round win over Anaconda, then bounced back with 15 hits to defeat Belgrade 8-4 in the second round.

Riley Kenney hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the seventh as Polson rallied to defeat Belgrade.

“We are playing our best ball right now. We’re in great shape,” said Pirate coach Larry Smith.

Heidi Rausch led off the seventh with a walk.

“Good things happen for you when it’s your team that walks,” Smith said. Jaylin Kenney batted her home, then Jessica Bagnell brought Kenney in.

Leadoff batter Ashley Johnson singled and was on first when Kenney sent the first pitch to straightaway center field.

“That was a great comeback,” Smith said.

Belgrade scored all its runs in the third inning as Polson committed two errors.

The Pirates play Hamilton, a surprise 15-14 winner over Billings Central at 2 p.m. today.

Billings Central scored two runs in the third and four in the top of the fourth to roll past Columbia Falls 7-1 in the first round on Thursday

Jaylynn Cantu and Niki Birky both batted 2-for-4 for the Wildkats, who totalled eight hits.

Columbia Falls faces Sidney in loser-out play today at 10 a.m.
