Iverson leads at Barnett

| May 27, 2012 11:42 PM

Kalispell’s Logan Iverson surged to the top of the leaderboard Sunday after the second round of the 77th Barnett Memorial Day golf tournament at Missoula Country Club.

Iverson was the only golfer to break 70 on Sunday, shooting a 3-under-par 68 to put him at 4-under 138 after 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament.

Libby’s Jim Mee is at 141 after an even-par 71 in the second round. Missoula’s Tom Swanson and Jerry Pearsall of Billings are another stroke back at 142.

The top foursome, as well as the rest of the championship flight, will tee off at 1:30 p.m. in today’s final round.

Iverson eagled the par-5 10th hole to go along with birdies on Nos. 5, 9 and 18.

First-round leader Spencer Williams of Great Falls soared to a 76 after opening with a 67 and is tied with Missoula’s Dirk Cloninger for fifth at 143. Last year’s runner-up, Bill Dunn of Missoula, is another shot back.

Missoula’s Maggie Crippen shot her second straight round of 80 to lead the women’s division by three strokes over University of Montana golfer Katelyn Frank, who also carded an 80 on Sunday. It’s another three strokes back to first-round leader Teigan Avery of Kalispell, who shot an 88.
