Margery Jean Foot, 80

| November 12, 2012 11:45 PM

Margery Jean Foot was born July 26, 1932, in Somers.

She died Nov. 9, 2012, in Missoula.

"Jean," as she was commonly known, graduated from Flathead County High School, the University of Montana and the University of Denver, where she earned a master's degree in library science.

She worked for many years as a librarian for the Great Falls Tribune, and lived most of her life in apartments near the Gibson Park area of Great Falls. She wasn't much of a driver, so she greatly enjoyed being able to walk to work through the neighborhood she loved so much. She did like to travel a bit and toured parts of Europe, where she visited some of her Irish kin.

After Jean retired, she moved to The Springs in Missoula to be nearer to concerned relatives.

Jean had a shy, sweet smile and a deprecating manner for all who knew her. But she also displayed a sharp, biting wit for ones lucky enough to see it. Jean was a coffee-craving fiend, a big ice cream fan, a newspaper aficionado and a lover of words. But mostly, Jean was a gentle soul who will be missed greatly by her nieces and nephews and their families.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Stewart Foot I and Margery Cleary Foot; her brothers, Paul Francis Foot, Harold Joseph Foot, Thomas Eugene Foot (who died as an infant), and James Cleary Foot and his wife Margreate; and her nephew, John Foot.

She is survived by nephews, George Foot of Nome, Alaska, Harold Foot and family of Long Beach, Calif., and Eric Foot and family of Kalispell; by nieces, Laura Straw and family of Lolo, Mary Foot and family of Somers, Kathy Gallagher and family of Lisbon, N.D., Kristine Foot and family of Missoula, and Jamie Foot and family of Golden Valley, Ariz.; and niece-in-law, Cindy Foot, and family, of Kalispell.

Jean's family wishes to thank her caregivers at Partners Hospice and The Springs of Missoula. We also send our gratitude to Kris, Dirk and their family for the special attention they lavished on Aunt Jean in her last years.

Per Jean's wishes, a funeral will not be held. Her family will meet at a later date to spread her ashes and share memories.

Donations can be made to the Angelman Foundation.
