Tickets on sale for movie marathon

| November 21, 2012 5:00 PM

Calling all Tolkienites: Tickets are on sale now for a “Lord of the Rings” marathon at Signature Theatres.

On Dec. 8, the Kalispell multiplex will play all three movies in Director Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved trilogy. The director’s cuts of the three movies will be screened in preparation for the release of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which premieres at 12:05 a.m. Dec. 14.

“The Hobbit” movies are a prequel of sorts to the story that unfolds in “Lord of the Rings.” In “The Hobbit,” Bilbo Baggins leaves his comfortable home in The Shire for an adventure with dwarves, a dragon and the wizard Gandalf. Along the way, he meets Gollum and discovers the ring that proves so important in “Lord of the Rings.”

Signature Theatres will screen “The Fellowship of the Ring” at 11 a.m., “The Two Towers” at 3:05 p.m. and “The Return of the King” at 7:15 p.m. The movies feature a never-before-seen introduction by Jackson.
