Flathead students present 'Snow Angel'

| October 10, 2012 9:30 PM

Mystery arrives with the snow flurries as Flathead High School Theatre presents the enchanting contemporary theater piece “Snow Angel” Oct. 25, 26 and 27.

When the quiet town of Deerpoint, Vt., is hit by the biggest blizzard in 107 years, a mysterious girl named Eva steps out of a snow bank and into a tangle of truth and lies with a group of teenagers. What Eva’s searching for and who she truly is becomes a mystery that baffles and divides the teens. Told through journal entries and interactions among the students over the course of a few blustery snow days, “Snow Angel” is ultimately a tale of transformation and the power of believing in yourself.

“The message is acceptance, being willing to take the chance to be known and to get to know those who are different from you,” Director Valeri McGarvey said. “I think this play will make people laugh a lot, yet remind them that friendship and the power of accepting one another can change us forever.”

“Snow Angel” was written specifically for high-school actors by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, McGarvey said.

The entire black box theater has been transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with falling snow, for the show.

“We are working with FHS teacher Brock Anderson and his wood shop class to create a sledding hill in the theater,” McGarvey said. “We will also have lots of ‘snow,’ and hope to create a dramatic storm to set the scene at the beginning of the show.”

Show time is 7 p.m. each night in the David M. Hashley Theatre at Flathead High.  Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the school’s main office and Photo Video Plus.

The cast of “Snow Angel” includes Chloe Newlon, Brooke Wahlert, Desirae Fauske, Brittany Kretske, Freya Woidniok, Heidi Griffin, Johannes Grimm, Sarah Christensenova, Jakeb Wilson, Zach Timm, Cody La Porta, Brandon Shores, Dan Power, Karl Boveng, Micah Moore, Jesse Francis and Jay Shonsey.

Behind the scenes, Elijah Katchur, Cassi Boozell, Catie Hendersen, Dana Pfiefer, Austin Heinkle, Ellie Lapp, April Sutera, Eric Hogan, Beki Hafemeyer, Alaina Mothershead, Nathaniel Harding, Jhalen Salazar, Jaben Wood, Sierra Curtis and Quinten Graham make up the stage, lighting and sound crew.
