Scott David Smith, 59, passed away on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, in Grandview, Wash.

Scott was born in Penn Yan, N.Y., to Carl and Jean (Umphreyville) Smith.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force following high school, Scott attended college in California. He fell in love with Montana when he traveled through the state on his way to California and returned to the Billings area after college graduation.

Scott enjoyed all outdoor activities, so moving to the Flathead Valley in 1990 was perfect for him. While in the Flathead, he worked as the service manager for various car dealerships in the valley. In 2000 he went to work as a maintenance engineer for both transportation ships and fishing ships. These jobs allowed him to travel to several foreign countries.

Survivors include his daughter, Teal Darlington-Smith, of Great Falls; his brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Darlene Smith, of Pennsylvania; nephews and nieces, Tim, Nate, Sandra and Karyn, and their families; and special friends, Neil and Martha Lentsch of Yakima, Washington.

Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima was in charge of cremation. At his request, there will be no services.
