Karen Jean Magone Schoonover, 58

| October 12, 2012 6:24 PM

Karen was born on Feb. 10, 1954, to Joseph and Edris (Huckaba) Magone in Superior.

She grew up in their family home on Trout Creek and married Adrian Schoonover on June 5, 1971, her high school sweetheart, best friend and the love of her life.

She died on Oct. 8, 2012, of natural causes in New Orleans.

She is survived by her husband, Adrian; her sons, Kirk and Jennifer Schoonover, and Jeff and Brittani Schoonover; her daughter, Andria Atkinson, and her son-in-law, Mark Atkinson; her much-loved grandchildren, Logan, Abigail, Adriana, Cadence, Kyler, Justin and Rylie; as well as her goddaughters, Anne Evans and Emily Macvie. Other survivors include her father, Joseph Magone; sisters, Diane, and Margaret and Ted; brothers, Dale and Becky, and Mark; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edris Magone; paternal grandparents, Hugh and Margaret Magone; maternal grandparents, James and Ruby Huckaba; and several aunts and uncles.

Karen and Adrian lived in several different places around the country. Their first adventure was to move to Maine when she was 18 years old; from there back to Superior and then to Washington for a short stint. They subsequently lived in Warrenton, Ore., and Columbia Falls, and then several years ago moved to Louisiana where she resided until her death.

Three years ago they acquired a house on Kidd Island Bay, Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where Karen was able to spend her summers and holidays with her beloved family and enjoyed many hours watching her grandchildren play in the lake and entertaining the always-welcomed company.

She and Adrian celebrated their 40th anniversary by hosting a family reunion at the lake house in July of 2011. They were also able to spend her last two Christmases there with all their children and grandchildren. Her much-loved lake house is the legacy that she left her family, wishing it to be a place where they could always come home to.

All who knew her loved her, and she gave freely with all her heart, her last gift being the gift of her beautiful eyes so that someone else would be able to see.

“Our family lost a very special person this past Monday; we will cherish all the wonderful memories that we have of her and although we will miss her greatly, she will live forever in our hearts.”

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Grange Hall on Kidd Island Bay Road.
