Rude remark escalates into gunplay

A rude comment by one man to another man’s mother escalated from words to fists to gunplay on U.S. 2 West in Marion. As reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, one of the men punched the other in the mouth and then they each got their guns and fired a shot, one as a warning and the other in an unknown direction.

An absent-minded older man was dropped off with a friend after a Middle Road resident in Columbia Falls found the man, confused, driving around in circles on the property. The man apparently thought he lived at the house.

A motorist-turned-farmhand pulled over and drove a herd of cattle off Montana 82 into an adjoining field and kept them there until their owner showed up.

Unknown people tried to steal fuel from a shop on Schrade Road and stole 30 gallons of diesel from trucks parked off Batavia Lane over the weekend.

A curious caller wanted to know what the age of sexual consent was in Montana.

Extra patrols were requested in the area of Ponderosa Lane to watch for a reported prowler in the neighborhood.

A reckless driver was reported doing burnouts in a truck on Fifth Avenue East.

Someone damaged a double-pane window at a post office on Kila Road in Kila.

Someone tried to pry open the back door of a Solberg Drive residence with a crow bar.

A man is in stable condition at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle late Monday night. Kalispell Police Department officers responded to Three Mile Drive shortly after 11 p.m., when it was reported that the man was breathing and moaning, but not moving or conscious. The man sustained a broken nose and a compound fracture to his arm, among other injuries.

An observant woman found a needle and spoon with plastic wrapped around it and white powder near it in a public restroom next to a restaurant on North Main Street.

A group of students who believed themselves to be above the rules and the law were reported for smoking marijuana on a school bus.

Officers counseled a pair of screaming teenagers after a woman called and asked police to come give the pair a “reality check.”

A late fairgoer was arrested after crashing his car into the gate at the north end of the fairgrounds then fleeing on foot.

A pedestrian believing he was being helpful pulled a bicycle out of the road on U.S. 93 North after the drunk man riding it threw it into traffic. The man then began yelling at the pedestrian.

A fighting couple drew a little too much attention from the Columbia Falls Police Department after it was reported that they were screaming and fighting and that one threatened the other with a butcher knife. The man was arrested on a felony warrant for failing to register as a violent offender in Silver Bow County. The woman was arrested for violating her probation by drinking.

Someone tried to get inside a Zephyr Court home that was under construction. Officers found footprints around the deck and scheduled an extra patrol.

Someone with an upside-down idea of charity stole windows from a Habitat for Humanity building site on Fifth Street West.


A sharp nurse contacted the Whitefish Police Department after a man came in and reported he had been assaulted with a machete on Wisconsin Avenue.

A calorie-conscious boy stole two cases of Bud Light from a store on U.S. 93 South.


Polson Police Department officers arrested two people Monday on U.S. 93, one during a traffic stop for issuing a bad check and one on an active warrant.
