Fire destroys West Valley barn

A barn on West Valley Drive was completely destroyed by a fire Tuesday night.

When firefighters with the West Valley Fire Department responded to the fire shortly before 10 p.m., the barn was already fully involved. It was described by fire Chief Russ Sappington as a “frame that was still standing.”

The barn burned to the ground, and firefighters discovered no possible cause for the blaze.

 

A Flathead County resident reported her son, who was already on probation, to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office for sleeping with a 13-year-old girl.

A frightened Willow Glen Drive resident reported someone tried to burn her house down by throwing something at her house that exploded. It turned out to be an artillery shell her son lit in the yard.

A grumpy and extremely drunk 50-year-old man was arrested after kicking the front door of a Mountain Drive home in Hungry Horse. The man was living in a camper in the driveway.

A boy was arrested after punching his mother on Bald Rock Road.

An inept motorist was reported driving a minivan on the wrong side of the road on U.S. 93 North in Kalispell.

Several mischievous youths were seen climbing on a West Evergreen Drive building.

A white 1997 Subaru Outback Sport was stolen on Woodland Park Drive in Kalispell.

A dirt bike was stolen off a trailer on U.S. 93 South in Kalispell.

Several items, including a handgun, were stolen on Montana 40 West in Columbia Falls.

 

The Kalispell Police Department responded twice to a Merganser Drive residence for catty neighbors dealing with a feline issue.

The first call came in at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, when a woman reported her neighbor may have taken her cat to the animal shelter over an ongoing problem of the neighbor being angry about the cat.

Officers returned to the residence shortly after 6 p.m., when a man went to the neighbor’s house screaming because the neighbor took the cat. He smashed the pumpkins they had outside. The neighbors are planning to pursue charges.

Someone looking for a five-finger discount on a Halloween costume burglarized a costume shop on East Center Street, escaping with several costumes and cash. The burglary may also have broken into other businesses in the area.

A group of tech-savvy youths were reportedly aiming laser pointers into windows on Kirsten Drive.

A drug haven was reported on Liberty Street, where a woman said her 23-year-old son reported a home had marijuana and pills all over the place and that he was concerned for the two young children living there. The residence had a history of drug activity. The incident was reported to child protective services.

A suspicious vehicle abandoned with the keys in the ignition on Fifth Avenue West turned out to have been previously reported stolen.

A Nintendo DS handheld gaming system was stolen on Eighth Avenue West.

A wallet was stolen on Hutton Ranch Road.

 

A pair of trashy men was reported to the Columbia Falls Police Department after one was seen pushing the other down Nucleus Avenue in a Dumpster.

A roofer’s girlfriend went through the roof on First Avenue West, screaming at her boyfriend as he worked atop a First Avenue West building.

A cooperative woman handed over marijuana and a pipe to police during a traffic stop on Nucleus Avenue.

A man was arrested on Cedar Pointe Drive.

 

A burly thief was reported to the Whitefish Police Department after stealing a concrete deer from the yard of a Spokane Avenue home.

Someone feeling entitled to free services set up several cellphones in the name of a local food bank.

A spooked motorist fled a vehicle after taking out a tree and driving into a ditch on Edgewood Place, leaving the vehicle — and the tree in the road — behind.
