Fall classes continue at Stumptown Art Studio

| October 31, 2012 5:30 PM

The fall schedule of classes and workshops continues in November with an array of art offerings at Stumptown Art Studio. Everything from a Parent-Toddler Art Time to creating jewelry in a Precious Metal Clay workshop is happening this month.

Adult workshops begin Saturday with mandala painting by guest artist Karla Westbrook. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., she will guide students through the steps of creating their own mandalas using their own designs and colors.

A workshop using Precious Metal Clay is being taught by guest artisan Kris Kramer from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Using this clay-like material that is 99 percent silver, students will be able to design and create their own pieces.

A glass-fusing workshop in making Christmas ornaments will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 14.

The new and popular painting evening, Canvas and Cocktails, will be held on Nov. 30. This month’s painting style subject is Gustav Klimt.

Family Fun at the Clayground, taught by Stumptown’s resident potter Stephanie Seguin, takes place from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Nov. 12 and 26. Students ages 9 through adult will learn to make a basic clay pot on the wheel in two hours.

The third session of youth classes begins the week of Nov. 12, with a week off for Thanksgiving. Muddy Mondays for ages 9 to 12 offer hand-building with clay after school. Also on Mondays is Arts and Crafts Club at Muldown Elementary.

The new Stumptown Art Academy takes place Mondays and Wednesdays for preschool students ages 3 to 5 in the morning and elementary ages in the afternoon.

Tuesdays offer Art Exploration for young artists and Spin! Spin! Spin! for ages 9 to 12 to learn the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel after school.

On Wednesdays, the popular After School Arts and Crafts Club for ages 9 to 12 takes place at the art studio where kids can “get smart and make art.”

A Parent-Toddler Art Time for ages 1 to 3 is held every Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. After school, Art with the Masters of Japan is the class in which students ages 6 to 9 will create their own masterpieces.

In addition to the regular classes and workshops, the Windows On Whitefish project has a schedule of classes and free community sessions.

The art of mosaic-making is being taught in the classes Monday and Nov. 11, 20 and 28. In this class, students will create their own mosaic fish for $65. After learning the skills and techniques of this art medium, they will be able to come back to work on the full-size window during the community session.
