Outdoor films on tap in Whitefish

| October 31, 2012 8:00 PM

Bluebird Guides, a Whitefish-based backcountry ski touring company, and Outside Media, a public relations company in Columbia Falls, are bringing Whitefish Mountain Films to the Flathead Valley for the fourth straight year.

A fundraiser for the Whitefish Trail, the Whitefish Mountain Films will be held Nov. 9-10. On Nov. 9, Matchstick Productions’ “Superheroes of Stoke” will play at 7 p.m. at the Bierstube at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance at The White Room.

On Nov. 10, doors open at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish at 5 p.m. With a $5 donation, attendees can watch a full evening of outdoor adventure edits featuring climbing, skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking, kayaking and fly fishing.

“We started out just showing our favorite backcountry skiing edits four years ago,” says Whitefish Mountain Films founder and BlueBird Guides owner Greg Franson.

“And it was so successful that people kept asking us to show these amazing films they’d seen that showcased other mountain sports. So this year we have an impressive lineup of films that highlight the remarkable stories found on snow, rock and water. It’s definitely going to be our best event yet.”

Professional athletes and filmmakers will be on hand to introduce their films. A raffle will benefit the Whitefish Trail, with prizes ranging from skis, outerwear, dinners to local restaurants, day ski passes and more.

The event is open to all ages. Food and beverages will be available for purchase before the films and during intermission.
