Stumptown Players stage 'Kimberly Akimbo'

| October 31, 2012 7:30 PM

Following last January’s successful run in Kalispell, Stumptown Players returns to the KM Theatre for its next production, “Kimberly Akimbo,” by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Called “the comedy of the year” by the New York Times, and “one of the funniest dark comedies about dysfunctional families” by the Los Angeles Times, “Kimberly Akimbo” is a hilarious and heartwarming play about a teenager with a rare condition causing her body to age faster than it should. Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love.

Directed by Linda Grinde, the cast includes Mona Charles, Karen Moes, Jim Mohn, Morgan Phelps and JeAnna Wisher.

Three-year-old acting troupe Stumptown Players has entertained sold-out audiences at the O’Shaughnessy Center during the last three summers, most recently with the comedy “Looking,” and last winter at the KM Theatre in Kalispell.

"Stumptown Players is excited to be returning to the charming KM Theatre, which is a jewel and the perfect venue for this funny and touching play," said Mohn, a Stumptown Players founding member, actor and director. "Kalispell, Whitefish and all of the Flathead Valley have supported our productions so enthusiastically, and we look forward to entertaining audiences again this fall."

Performances are Nov. 8-10 and 15-17. There is a free preview Wednesday.

All shows start at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $12 and are available by calling 871-6447 or emailing stumptownplayers@gmail.com. The KM Theatre is located in the historic KM Building, 40 Second St. E., Kalispell.
