Golf: Glacier boys lead Missoula Invitational
MISSOULA — All four of the Glacier boys scoring golfers were in the top 10 on the opening day of the Missoula Invitational on Wednesday at Larchmont Golf Course, leading the Wolfpack to a nine-stroke team lead.
Glacier scored a team round of 302, leading Missoula Hellgate (311) and Helena Capital (315) after a close first round. Tommy Mann and Kevin Talcott each shot 2-over 74 to finish the round tied for second place. Scott Larson is in fifth with a 75 and Cody Sherrill is in a tie for 10th with a 79. Greg Jones is sitting outside of the top 10 after shooting an 82.
Flathead’s Ryan Keenan leads all golfers after shooting a 73. The Braves are seventh as a team (342) after the first day.
Polson’s Alex Killian is just outside the top 10 after the first day, carding an 80 to finish one stroke off the pace. The Pirates are in eighth as a team (355).
The Pirate girls are challenging the top of the scoreboard, sitting in third after the first day as the top Class A school. Peyton Anderson is tied for 10th after a first round 94 and teammate Jaylin Kenney is two shots back of her.
Glacier’s Teigan Avery is in third place on the leaderboard, having shot an 83 to trail Capital’s Coral Schulz by six strokes. The Wolfpack is a ways back in the team standings with every other golfer finishing in the 100s.
Flathead is in fourth place as a team, led by Jenna Jensen’s 92 in seventh place. Morgan Knutson fell just outside of the top 10 after shooting a 99.
