| August 27, 2013 3:47 PM

Mary Nelson Turk, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at her home in Dayton, where she wanted to be.

Mary’s life was long and adventurous and as she stated, “Lovely.”

She was born in Mount Forest, Ontario, on June 29, 1925, to Stephen and Mary (Swanston) Jones. Mary always remained a loyal Canadian, yet loved her United States.

As a young woman, Mary flew planes, earned a doctoral degree in educational learning disabilities, scuba dove, traveled the world, and lived in Vietnam, Germany, South America, and ultimately Montana. In Dayton she put down roots and welcomed friends and family with her wit, charm and hospitality. Mary loved to entertain.

Memorial services will be held on Mary’s dock in Dayton at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 31, and at a later date in Canada.

The family suggests memorial gifts be given in Mary’s name to the Lake County Humane Society.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Mary’s family. You are invited to www.jgfuneralhome.com to view Mary’s tribute wall, offer condolences and share memories.
