Ten high school runners from the Flathead Valley will compete in the West Regional of the 35th annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

Glacier is sending three boys — junior Kade McCutcheon, junior transfer Brock Sandry and sophomore Logan Harmon — and one girl — sophomore Corinne Hamilton.

McCutcheon finished fourth at the Montana Class AA state cross country meet in Missoula in October. Harmon placed 15th and Hamilton 21st.

Flathead’s entrants are junior Sylas Schutt and Chase Kittle. Schutt was 17th at state and Kittle 26th.

Competing from Columbia Falls are junior Samantha Mundel and senior James Ratzlaff. Mundel placed ninth at the Class A state meet while Ratzlaff was 46th.

Bigfork’s running family, the Morleys, will have three in attendance at the regional, led by three-time Class B state champion Makena.

Logan, a sophomore, and Brynn, an eighth grader, are also entered.

Makena, a junior, broke the Montana all-class state record with her winning time of 16 minutes, 35.31 seconds in Missoula in October.

She finished second in a field of 158 runners last month at the Nike Northwest Regional in Boise, Idaho, with a time of 17:36 for 5k.

Makena placed third at the Foot Locker West Regional last year and was 24th at nationals.

Logan had the second-best time at the Class B state meet.

The 7th/8th grade race is two miles and begins at 7:15 a.m. PST. The high school races are 5k.

The final race is the seeded boys at 10:40 a.m. The girls seeded race is scheduled for 9:55 a.m.

Race webcasting begins at 7:15 a.m. at www.footlocker.com.

The top 10 seeded finishers from the four regionals advance to the Foot Locker Cross County Championships National Finals in San Diego on Dec. 14.

Regional races in the Northeast (Bronx, N.Y.), Midwest (Kenosha, Wis.) and South (Charlotte, N.C.) were held Nov. 30.

The West Regional consists of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
