| December 6, 2013 7:44 PM

The U.S. Air Force’s elite Thunderbirds are coming to the Flathead Valley on Labor Day weekend for the Mountain Madness 2014 air show.

“It’s official,” said Chris Parson, vice president of the Kalispell Chamber, who was in Las Vegas on Friday meeting with officials of the Thunderbirds flight demonstration team and lining up civilian acts.

Parson will direct the air show with a volunteer committee of 35. Dates for the show are Saturday Aug. 30 and Sunday Aug. 31. The show was originally scheduled for this year, but was canceled because of federal budget cuts.

The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Glacier Park International Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration, applied for the show that’s expected to draw roughly 40,000 spectators over the two days.
