Symphony offers scholarships for musical students

| February 6, 2013 6:00 PM

Students in grades nine through 12, including graduating seniors, who have played with the Glacier Symphony for at least three concerts during a regular season or who are on the permanent orchestra substitution list, or those who have sung in the Glacier Chorale are eligible to apply for a scholarship from Glacier Symphony and Chorale.

The nonprofit music group annually awards scholarships to student musicians to help them pursue a career or avocation in music. Scholarships are awarded based on musical ability and potential, as determined by the scholarship committee.

In addition, when funds are available, “at-large” scholarships may be provided to outstanding music students who show exceptional ability but have not yet had the opportunity to perform with Glacier Symphony and Chorale. Scholarships must be used for students to further their musical career through camps, private lessons or college tuition.

Applications are available at www.gscmusic.org; click the “Education” tab.

Applications must be postmarked by March 22 to be considered and should be mailed to Glacier Symphony and Chorale Attn: Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 2491, Kalispell, MT 59903 or delivered to the symphony office at 720 S. Main St. in Kalispell.

The recipients will be announced at Glacier Symphony and Chorale’s April 27 and 28 concerts. Graduating senior awards will be presented at the student’s high school spring awards assembly.
