Strong start for area golfers

MISSOULA — Four area golfers are either leading or tied for the lead in their respective age divisions after first-day action at the Montana State Junior Golf Championships at the Missoula Country Club.

Teigan Avery of Kalispell shot 77 for a 7-shot lead in the girls 14-15 age division.

Ryggs Johnston of Libby opened with a 71 for a 3-shot edge in boys 13-and-under.

Kalispell’s Tom Mann shot 72 for a 3-shot advantage in boys 14-15 while Arthur Doorn of Whitefish carded a 72 to share first place with two other golfers in boys 16-17.

Cody Sherrill of Kalispell is five shots behind Doorn and Ryan Keenan of Bigfork is five shots behind Mann.

Whitefish’s Erin Tabish shot an 88 and is six shots off the pace in girls 16-17.

The tournament ends today.
