Baseball: Mission Valley Mariners split doubleheader
POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners and Bitterroot Bucs split a pair of American Legion baseball conference games Thursday.
The Mariners won 7-6 in 10 innings and lost 5-3 in seven innings.
In Mission Valley’s win, Bitterroot scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead, but the Mariners answered with two in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.
Zeke Webster-Yaqui scored the winning run, touching home plate after Bradley Pichler’s ground ball was misplayed by Bitterroot shortstop Sage Hansen.
Pichler batted 3 for 5 to lead the Mariners while Webster-Yaqui was 2 for 5. Hansen batted 4 for 5 to lead the Bucs.
JT Probst pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings in relief of Pichler to earn the win. Pichler allowed six runs, two earned, on 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings.
Bransen Krebs had two of Mission Valley’s five hits in its loss. Hansen and Austin Nogle each tallied two hits for Bitterroot.
The Mariners head to Belgrade for the Boys of Summer Tournament today.
