Car could become breakup casualty

A man who didn’t realize breaking up was so hard to do contacted the Kalispell Police Department to report his ex-girlfriend would not give him his car back. She told him instead that if he wanted it, he would find it in a ditch in Whitefish.

A man who stole a battery from a U.S. 93 South store still didn’t have enough energy to escape employees who chased him across the street and into a field before apprehending him. He was cited and released.

Several panhandlers who thought they were being sneaky were advised to move along after they were reported covering up the “no panhandling” sign at Reserve Loop and U.S. 93 North and knocking on motorists’ windows.

A concerned father reported his ex-wife threatened him, saying when he picks up his daughter at her West Nevada Street School, she will be there to cause a scene.

A pair of men who thought they were shielded from prying eyes were reportedly using drugs inside a vehicle in the parking lot of a North Meridian Road bar.


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received several calls involving drugs and alcohol Wednesday.

At 12:19 p.m., a Patrick Creek Road man reported he found marijuana plants in the home belonging to his son and that his son, who was on probation, had assaulted him on Saturday.

At 1:08 p.m., a Bright Star Trail woman reported an ongoing problem with her neighbor. The neighbor, it seems, was at the home while the woman’s 15-year-old daughter was having a party and reportedly told the teen she could buy her alcohol if she ever needed it. The mother was advised to apply for a restraining order.

At 2:21 p.m., a Williams Lane woman in Bigfork reported finding devices for smoking drugs made out of pop cans in her son’s room.

At 10:29 p.m. a man with a local towing agency reported finding a syringe in a vehicle that was towed at the behest of the Montana Highway Patrol. The man shared his concern that the owner of the vehicle — who came by earlier acting very nervous — might try to come back later and jump the fence.

A concerned school superintendent reported five loud gun shots in the area of McMannamy Draw. A responding deputy discovered it was a man firing safely who had not thought about a nearby school being in session at the time. The man said he would not fire any more rounds until after the school let out.


Whitefish Police officers arrested a man following a brief foot pursuit through a field and a swamp after the man stole a vehicle on Idaho Avenue and later ditched it.

A woman was arrested after she and a man tried to assault a taxi driver on Central Avenue. The driver was going to give the pair and another woman a ride, but ordered them out of the vehicle because they were being aggressive.

A parent reported men handing out Bibles and jumping at vehicles at a school on East Seventh Street when she went to pick up her child.


The Kalispell Fire Department was saved from a bit of work on Appleway Drive, when an apartment building’s fire sprinkler system activated properly, dousing a cooking fire in one of the units.
