Banff film festival comes to Kalispell

| November 6, 2013 6:00 PM

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is making a stop in Kalispell.

See films from the festival Tuesday and Wednesday at the Flathead High School auditorium. The screenings start at 7 p.m.

The festival is a flagship program of The Banff Centre and one of the most prestigious mountain festivals in the world. The festival, a nine-day event celebrating books, films, photos and more, takes place annually in Banff, Alberta, and is immediately followed by a world tour of the event’s top films.

Host organizations in each tour location choose a program that reflects the interests of their community, creating a unique celebration of adventure and adventurers at each stop. The world tour spans the globe, reaching more than 330,000 audience members through more than 735 screenings in approximately 400 locations in 40 countries.

Many of the tour screenings benefit local outdoor programs, community causes or nonprofit organizations. In Kalispell, the screenings will aid the Flathead Nordic Ski Patrol.

A wide range of films are screened on the tour, from 5-minute shorts to feature-length films including many premieres. Dozens of filmmakers are in attendance to introduce their films. More than 300 films are entered into the Banff Mountain Film Competition each year, and the best are screened to the public during the festival.

Tickets are $14 each and are available at Sportsman & Ski Haus, The White Room, Runner-up Sports and Rocky Mountain Outfitter.
