Two Bear Air will be a lifesaver

Northwest Montana residents, particularly those who frequent the Great Outdoors, should feel fortunate that Two Bear Air has got their backs.

The search and rescue outfit, supported entirely by private resources, recently acquired a state-of-the-art, twin-engine Bell 429 helicopter with thoroughly impressive on-board technology and air-hoist capabilities.

Kalispell Regional Medical Center’s ALERT Helicopter has set the template for an air ambulance with hundreds of invaluable rescues across our expansive region, starting in 1975 with the intention of helping loggers working in the woods.

Largely because of its hoist and ground-scanning capabilities, the Two Bear helicopter takes that to a whole new and needed level. Every year, there will be multiple incidents where this helicopter will make a difference.

The icing on the cake: This $8 million investment, which requires additional millions to cover operational costs, does not require taxpayer support. Whitefish philanthropist Michael Goguen deserves a big shout out of thanks for delivering such an asset to this region!

A rehabilitated Outlaw!

A big thank you is also in order for Steve and Cinthia Rice, the entrepreneurs who are helping to resurrect the once renowned Outlaw Inn as a moderately priced GuestHouse Inn.

For many years, the Outlaw was the equivalent of a welcome sign for Kalispell’s southern border, and for many years it had the virtual corner on the convention market as well. Throw in a thriving restaurant and jumping bar and music scene, and the Outlaw was THE place to be.

But in recent years, changes in ownership and changing times have resulted in the hotel becoming rundown and nearly deserted, and it looked like it was on its last legs.

When the Rices bought the Outlaw in June, however, a new era began. An extensive renovation with completely remodeled guest rooms, along with the new affiliation with the popular GuestHouse chain, means the Outlaw has officially begun a second life.

We wish the Rices well as they help this gargantuan hotel make the transition from longtime local legend to the kind of safe, affordable, modern hotel that budget-minded travelers keep in high demand.
