Class A football semis: Billings Central drops C-Falls

BILLINGS — Jacob Hadley and Holden Ryan had long interception returns for touchdowns and Jesse Byorth ran for two scores as second-ranked Billings Central (9-1) handed third-ranked Columbia Falls its first loss of the football season Saturday on Wendy’s Field at Daylis Stadium.

The Rams never trailed in claiming a 33-21 Class A semifinal playoff victory.

Turnovers hindered any chance Columbia Falls (9-1) had of advancing to next weekend’s championship game against top-ranked Dillon. The Rams intercepted Columbia Falls quarterback Jared Trinastich five times. The two returns for touchdowns went for 60 and 75 yards, helping Billings Central go on top 21-7.

Last week in a 55-10 quarterfinal playoff win over Hamilton, Billings Central totaled seven interceptions.

Trinastich completed 23 of 43 passes for 309 yards. He had touchdown passes of 10 and 77 yards to Ty Morgan and 15 yards to Trevor Houston.

The 77-yarder tied the game at 21-all in the third period.

Morgan had 10 receptions for 170 yards.

Both teams lost their top rusher — Zach Darling of Columbia Falls and Ryan — to injuries.

Dillon won its semifinal contest Friday night, 48-14 over Belgrade.
