COLUMBIA FALLS — Libby’s Johnny Davidson scored twice and eliminated Columbia Falls’ playoff hopes as the Loggers earned a 2-0 Northern A conference soccer shutout.

Davidson scored twice unassisted in the first 26 minutes as the Loggers held off a flurry of shots from Columbia Falls in the win. Libby keeper Jacob Wood made five saves to blank the Wildcats.

Libby (5-5-2 overall, 5-1-2 Northern A) moves on to the state tournament and a first round match against Stevensville (11-0-1). Columbia Falls (4-7-1, 2-5-1), which would’ve had a chance for the playoffs with a win, finished the season in fourth place.

“It was a real important game for us and we didn’t get it done,” Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said. “It was probably one of the worst games we played all season. It’s unfortunate.”

COLUMBIA FALLS — The Wildkats (7-2-3 overall, 6-1-1 Northern A) needed some time to crack the Libby (1-11-0, 0-8-0) defense, but found its way to the net in the second half, scoring twice in a shutout victory.

“They packed (the defense) in on us and it took us a while to figure it out,” Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said.

Haley Purdy broke through with a goal five minutes into the second half on an assist from Lindsay Strouse. Strouse added a goal of her own in the 68th minute to give the Wildkats some breathing room.

Columbia Falls held Libby without a shot or an attempt on goal in the match. The Kats move on to the state tournament and a first-round match at Hamilton (11-0-1).
